At the time we were planning the summer reading lists, it was not known if the library and/or local book stores would be open to the public due to the COVID-19 outbreak.  The decision was made to feature materials available on the online ebook website myON, as well as materials available from the schools on their MackinVIA ebook platform accessible through Classlink for the Elementary School summer reading resources.

2020 summer reading list for elementary school

A committee of media and educational technology instructors worked to compile the summer reading list. The summer reading committee selected titles based on their appeal to students. The goal of the summer reading list is to provide students with a wide variety of books to enjoy during the summer months. Students may wish to read works from other level lists as appropriate. It is our hope that the summer reading list will encourage students to make reading an essential part of summer vacation.

At the time we were planning the summer reading lists, it was not known if the library and/or local book stores would be open to the public due to the COVID-19 outbreak.  The decision was made to feature materials available on our online ebook platform, SORA, for all Middle and High School summer reading resources.

HOW TO GET SORA:
  1. Download the free Sora app on your mobile or tablet from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Open SORA and search for "Fulton County Schools".  Sign in using your FCS username and password.

SYNC - AUDIOBOOKS FOR TEENS

Picture
SYNC is a free summer audiobook program for teens 13+. Returning April 30th and continuing 13 weeks until July 29,  SYNC gives participants two thematically paired audiobooks a week. One of the goals of the SYNC program is to introduce a variety of audiobook experiences to teens to demonstrate that required reading can be completed by listening.

SYNC is sponsored by AudioFile Magazine and titles are delivered through Sora, the student reading app from OverDrive. In advance of accessing the program, download the app from Apple or Google, to the device you anticipate listening on and be ready to go!

Each SYNC audiobook is available for loading into the app for a period of 7 days (only).  Titles, once loaded into the app, are yours indefinitely.

Sign-up to get notifications each week when the FREE audiobooks are available. You can receive alerts by text message, email newsletter, or by visiting www.audiobooksync.com. Titles change every Thursday overnight  Eastern Time when the program is running.

Sora sweet reads

Picture
To better serve remote reading amid recent school closings, OverDrive’s Summer Read program will now run April 15 – July 31 with the theme Sora Sweet Reads. This annual program is designed for schools in the US and Canada to encourage students to keep reading all year long. We’re offering thirty free and simultaneous use juvenile and young adult ebooks (and select audiobooks). These titles will be available and prominently displayed in Sora so it’s easy for students to find their next sweet read.

If your students read them all, they can always check out more books from their Fulton County School's library without ever leaving Sora.
